Riau Island is ready to accommodate the plastic ore processing industry
[10 March 2019] The Government of Lingga Regency, Riau Islands is ready to accommodate the plastic ore processing industry that does not get permission in Batam because it is feared to have a negative impact on the environment and the health of the local community.
This was revealed by the Regent of Lingga, Alias Wello, responded to the rejection of Batam Mayor Muhammad Rudi for the plan to enter the plastic ore processing industry on the Scorpion-shaped island.
“As long as the processing system is environmentally friendly, government regulations do not prohibit and give an economic impact to the community, Lingga is ready to accommodate it,” said Awe, the Lingga Regent’s nickname, Sunday (03/10/2019).
He claimed to be able to understand the rejection of the Mayor of Batam over the plastic ore processing industry. Moreover, if it is associated with population growth and the development of community settlements that are increasingly close to industrial estates.
“Human consideration. Land is limited, population is growing rapidly. Different from Lingga. The land is quite large, but the population is small. Imagine, Lingga has 604 islands and its population is only 102 thousand people and only inhabits 98 islands, “he said.
To accommodate the investment overflow from Batam and its surroundings, especially the plastic ore processing industry, Awe has allocated three strategic industrial zones in the Lingga Regency Regional Spatial Planning (RTRW) amendment.
The three industrial areas, respectively, are the Sebayur industrial area with an area of 3,000 hectares, Tanjung Kruing industrial area with an area of 1,000 hectares and the Tenam River industrial area with an area of 160 hectares.
As reported by a number of media, the Mayor of Batam, Muhammad Rudi, refused to give permission for the plastic ore processing industry in Batam. Rudi reasoned, the raw materials processed into plastic ore in Batam came from abroad.
“We are not rejecting investment, but we have to save the people in the next 15 years. We will accept the investment, but not only from the side of the money. But we must think about the effects of this company, “he said.
